本文在简要介绍产品数据管理的含义、主要内容及研究和应用现状后，提出了支持并行设计的产品数据管理系统的概念；应用了面向对象的方法和树状数据结构理论，建立产品设计数据的树状结构模型；提出了通用数据树和设计数据树分离建模的思想；引入了idefo和结构化分析的过程建模方法，用以定义并行设计的过程模型；结合客户/服务器结构网络数据管理系统的概念，给出了支持并行设计的产品数据管理系统的原型框架和具体实现方法。
