The temple was built in 1914 with financial contribution from the dockyard industry . the present site was chosen because a bronze statue of a unicorn - a symbol of good omens - was found inside a cave at the site . the cave was subsequently named the cave of the unicorn 当年觅地兴建该庙时，在今庙址之上发现一石洞，洞内藏有一尊铜麒麟像，被视为吉祥之物，所以决定建庙于此，并奉该洞为麒麟洞。
