The house was said to be a tin hau temple or a study hall originally . in the early qing dynasty , the owner of the house left kam tin and never returned , following the imperial edict on coastal evacuation . later , the banyan tree next to the house grew bigger and bigger and finally , the brick wall and the granite doorframe of the stone house were entangled with the tree s boughs
锦田树屋据说树屋原址为一间天后庙或书斋，其主人因清初迁界而离开锦田，从此一去不回。其后，屋旁之榕树不断长大，夹缠石屋的砖墙及麻石门框。
