本文的基本研究结论是：目前我国农民进城并没有实现稳定就业，因而是一种不彻底的迁移；目前我国的城市化进程是滞后的，这种滞后始于改革开放之后；城市化的滞后造成了我国就业岗位的丧失，也阻碍了经济增长；从经济和非经济的角度考察进城就业农民的行为选择，发现虽然经济动因很重要，但还有一些其它诸如家庭、个人偏好、社会关系等因素也起了重要作用；随着改革开放的深入，虽然制度因素有所放松，但是对农民进城就业的障碍性作用依然存在；由于劳动力的歧视、劳动力进入的制度成本、城乡福利差异等因素的影响，使得歧视性的二元劳动力市场无助于缓解农业剩余劳动力对城市的就业压力，反而造成了城市劳动力市场就业容量损失，降低了整个社会的福利水平。
