本文在红外辐射的基础知识上引出红外诊断的基本原理，分析了红外成像仪的成像原理；并从红外诊断的角度研究了电气设备的故障模式及其诊断的机理；研究了利用红外热像仪对电气设备的故障进行诊断，获取设备故障热像图谱并进行热像图谱的分析；对影响电气设备红外技术诊断结果的各种可能因素进行了分析探讨，并针对这些干扰因数，提出了相应的对策，以提高检测的准确性；论文最后应用红外热成像技术对四川电网中的部分变压器和避雷器典型的内外部故障进行了诊断分析，得到与实际相符的结果。
